López-Gavilán, accomplished in both the classical and jazz realms, has performed around the world (at high-profile venues including Carnegie Hall), collaborated with a number of orchestras and has been releasing albums since 1999.
According to the Stanford Jazz Workshop website, audiences can expect to hear “his awe-inspiring and achingly beautiful compositions which defy categorization, but which express the totality of his multicultural experience and musical vision.”
In recent years, López-Gavilán was also featured in the documentary “Los Hermanos (The Brothers)” by San Francisco filmmakers Marcia Jarmel and Ken Schneider that chronicled his musical reunion with his brother, Ilmar, a top violinist.
