How love led an Italian chef to relocate his eatery to Redwood City

When I asked Momo Farouq what his favorite flavor of pizza is, he said “My wife.”

Farouq and his wife Sarika Batra have perhaps the cutest meet-cute I have ever heard. California-born Batra met Italian pizza maker Farouq while on vacation in Lake Como, and now the husband-and-wife team are bringing Farouq’s Pizzeria Cardmomo to Redwood City.

While there won’t be any wife-flavored pizza, the seasonally evolving menu features quite a selection of interesting flavor combinations, like the Morocco with sausage, dried plums, roasted organic almonds and cinnamon. I’m already salivating.

Stay tasty,
Adrienne

How love led an Italian chef to relocate his pizzeria from Lake Como to Redwood City

Momo Farouq and Sarika Batra have a love story that reads like a romance novel, with their latest chapter culminating in the creation of Pizzeria Cardamomo in Redwood City, expected to open in early September. But their story doesn’t begin in Redwood City – it begins in Lake Como, Italy.

Jalapeno balls at State of Mind Public House and Pizzeria

State of Mind’s jalapeno balls are life-changing.

The first time I had them was a few years back while working a shift as a barista at Peet’s Coffee in Los Altos. My manager decided to order takeout from the nearby pizzeria to boost morale, and I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with these tiny little arancini-looking balls of cheesy, spicy goodness.

Since then, I go to State of Mind specifically for their take on jalapeno poppers (which are so much better than the traditional).

Take a bite into one of these insanely crispy balls to reveal ooey gooey molten cheese perfectly spiced with jalapeno and cooled with a tangy homemade ranch. My only complaint is that one order only comes with five of them.
