A Mountain View man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly exposing himself and masturbating in front of a woman at the Mountain View Public Library earlier in the week, according to the Mountain View Police Department.
Police responded to a report of an indecent exposure incident at the library around 12:10 p.m. on July 28. When officers arrived, a woman told them that a man had asked her a question as she walked by him. When she looked at him, she saw that he was indecently exposed and masturbating, according to a statement from the Mountain View Police Department.
The suspect, later identified as a 38-year-old Mountain View resident, fled the library before police arrived. But during a patrol check on July 30, officers saw the man at the Mountain View library and placed him under arrest, police said.
The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of failing to register as a sex registrant and indecent exposure with prior convictions, police said.
His bail has been set for $35,000, according to county records.
The victim believes that there might have been more people at the library who saw the suspect’s activities and police are asking that anyone with additional information contact Sgt. Matthew Hom at matthew.hom@mountainview.gov or at 650-903-6344.
Correction: A previous version of this story stated that the suspect was 28 years old, based on a police press release. Police are now reporting that the man is 38 years old.
