Mountain View’s summer movie nights return

Mountain View’s summer movie series will return this year, starting the first Friday in July and running through early August.

The outdoor movie nights will begin on Friday, July 5, at Cuesta Park with a showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The series will continue each Friday through Aug. 9 at different parks around town.

The movies will start at 8:30 p.m. or when it gets dark. Before each movie, there will be yard games, bubbles, a “spin to win wheel” and trivia, according to the city.

The city encourages families to bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit on.

Summer construction projects planned at local schools

With the school year over and kids out on summer vacation, construction projects will kick off at various local schools in the coming weeks.

The Mountain View Whisman School District is planning to replace older windows at Imai, Landels, Monta Loma and Theuerkauf elementary schools, as well as Crittenden Middle School, this summer. The new windows will increase energy efficiency and are expected to be installed from June through August during business hours, according to the district.

Landels will also get a new blacktop surface, with work slated to run through June 16. Wear and tear on the existing blacktop exposed unsafe cracks, the district said. Blacktop areas on campus are off-limits during construction.
